As you walk down the drive from our Ambleside B&B you can see Wansfell straight ahead. Once you have made it up Wansfell you get great views of Ambleside, Lake Windermere and much more. There is a great circular route you can take, taking in Troutbeck (stopping for a pint or a bite to eat if you like) it’s just up to you which way you want to do it. You can either head up from the middle of Ambleside past Stockghyll Waterfalls and then up a steep climb to the top of Wansfell before you head on to Troutbeck. From there you can make your way back across some farm land and into Skellghyll Woods where you will find the fantastic view point of Jenkins Crag before heading back down into Ambleside. Alternatively you can avoid the steep climb at the start of the walk by doing the walk in reverse, although obviously this means finishing the walk with a steep descent.

Here is how The National Trust suggest you do it: https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/townend/trails/ambleside-to-troutbeck-and-back-via-wansfell
